Urban Survival Bug Out Bag List Part 2
If you haven’t read part one of this series please read Bug Out Bag Checklist Part 1 before you read this. It will explain about food, water and fire for survival.
Flashlight – every pack should have at least one flash light. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but you can sometimes find the little mag light versions at the dollar store although I wouldn’t recommend this for quality and reliability reasons. For around 10 to 15 dollars you can create several packs. Using smaller flash lights will save room in your survival pack, Plus using double AA batteries is lighter to carry than say C or D size batteries. There are also fancy headlamp’s you can purchase which are nice because they keep your hands free for other tasks.
Batteries – Double AA batteries seem to work for everything, and they are light. I have twelve in each bag. And it would be wise to rotate your stock, as batteries don’t last forever.
First Aid Survival Kit Supplies
If you buy a first aid kit you will need to bring only the essentials with you, or you could make your own. Ours are packed in gallon size Ziploc bags. Each first aid kit contains different size band aids, alcohol wipes, 4×4 gauze, 3” cling gauze wrap, 4” ace wrap 2 saline bullets (2cc sterile saline in tiny plastic bullet shaped ampules) 1” Coban wrap, which is also called vet wrap, which you can purchase on the internet or at a local horse supply store. It can act as a tourniquet, or to apply a pressure dressing. Coban (or vet wrap) is also great to use to secure a dressing if you are unsure if someone has an adhesive allergy.
Xeroform gauze ( gauze that has been impregnated with ointment, helpful for holding in moisture) Small single pack of Kleenex, like the kind you keep in your purse. Several pair of Nitrile gloves in large because it is better to have baggy gloves than ones that rip apart because they are too small. Also with the many latex allergies that people have, Nitrile is a good alternative. Tweezers are handy and can be used for many different tasks. Medical scissors again, helpful for multiple tasks.
