Be Prepared for anything

We as Americans think of a SHTF situation as living without electricity, scavenging for water and having to defend ourselves day to day just to survive, but as Americans we have no idea what true poverty really is. There are countries all over the world that think of what we call a SHTF event as everyday life, so asking whether or not the S is going to hit the fan in our lifetime is somewhat subjective because it already has in other parts of the world.

When I think about the possibility of something life changing happening in the next 20 or 30 years I sometimes second guess myself and wonder if I am just over reacting.

It’s like the blue car affect, when you buy a blue car all of the sudden you see blue cars everywhere, so am I just worried about this because I choose to read about it all the time?

That thought is quickly crushed by the reminder that this system is ABSOLUTELY unsustainable and anyone who disagrees is not taking a realistic look at the world around them either because they have their own agenda or they are in complete denial.

This reminds me of riding a roller coaster, as you begin climbing the first big hill the anticipation builds because everything is fine as you are slowly climbing up the hill, but you know that is all about to change.

As the roller coaster goes over the hill some people close their eyes and hold their breath, some people embrace it and throw their arms in the air and some of us know what is coming and brace ourselves for the fall.

As the ride goes on there are more ups and downs but you never get as high as you were on that first hill and eventually the ride comes to a stop.

I believe we are approaching the top of that very first hill and we are in for the ride of our lives

In this article titled “The utter collapse of human civilization will be ‘difficult to avoid,’ NASA funded study says” stated the following…
The utter collapse of human civilization

There are 2 things that concern me about this article. The first is “in the coming decades” and the second is “major policy changes”

The first point concerns me because the numbers don’t lie and I plan on being around for at least a couple more decades. Although it doesn’t take a mathematician to figure this out, it just reinforces what I (we) already know.

The second point might be a little more concerning than the first because it basically means our only hope is socialism. When we start telling people that they have too much of something we lose our freedoms and we become slaves to the system.

This country was built on the premise that through hard work you could become as successful as you wanted to be. If we put a cap on that, we are putting a cap on innovation and creativity. This gives the entitlists even less of a reason to get off their butts and the true innovators less motivation to push on.

Flashback  to the 80’s

When we look back a few decades we see that we are a completely different society with even larger problems.

  • The world population was about 5 billion people
  • New Plague Identified as AIDS
  • U.S. Bombs Libya
  • There were no cell phones and the internet that we know today was non existent
  • New York Stock Exchange Suffers Huge Drop on “Black Monday”

While there were events in the 80’s that could have exploded into something bigger, the threats we face today have potential to be much more catastrophic.

Because population and technology are growing fasted than it ever has throughout history I can only imagine what everything will be like 30 years from now.

Back to the future

Population InfographicImage by Inforgraphiclist.com

As you can see in this info graphic the world population is projected to be almost 9.5 billion people by 2050, if we don’t destroy ourselves first that is. Mother nature has a way of protecting herself, and we have a way of biting the hand that feeds.

In just over 100 years our population has boomed. The population spike started during the industrial revolution and continues to grow at that rate because fossil fuels make our everyday lives possible.

Fossil fuel is a one time endowment, and what are we going to do when the well runs dry? How will we maintain the population? The short answer is we won’t.

As a population we have the tendency to ignore the problems we face unless they affect us directly. This video is a great example, how many people think about this when they buy a chicken from walmart?

The question we should all be asking ourselves is “How much longer can we sustain this growing population?” and if we use up all the fossil fuels how will we even produce enough food for the population in the first place?

The End of Our Way of Life

This brings me to the most concerning part…socialism. When I think about this scenario I can’t help but envision a scenario not unlike the movie Elisium, I’m not talking about the space station and the exoskeleton robotics, I’m talking about the rationing, depletion of natural resource and separation of the rich and poor with nothing in between.

This isn’t something that is going to happen over night either, I for one am not going to go quietly while all of my freedoms are taken for the “good of society” and I am not alone. There are going to be other events like martial law that are deemed “necessary” to get the situation under control.

Debora MacKenzie was also quotes in the article stating…

“Every civilization we know about has collapsed: the Maya, the Romans, Chinese dynasties, the Sumerians,”

“No one has simply made all the right choices and kept going, so it seems there’s something intrinsic to civilization itself.”

The difference is these were civilizations in small geographic regions, we are talking about a global scale these days, and as far as I know we don’t have another planet to move to.

If this country continues on the path we are on with reckless spending and over consumption we are going to lose our seat at the head of the table. With Asia holding 60% of the population we might be forced to go along with whatever global policy’s that are deemed necessary.

The reality is that most of us would probably not survive this because we are not going to just ride off into the sunset and let them tell us what we can or can’t do. But what about the next generation? Will they have intestinal fortitude to fight for our freedom’s? And will they have the education to know what they should be fighting for? I sure hope so.

The point is something HAS to change. Someone or something has to step in and say “Enough!” or this planet will just get rid of us and start over. If you believe in god like me you believe that he is not going to let complete extinction happen. But until then what will we have to live through? And if it doesn’t happen in our lifetime, what will our children have to live through?

All of this is why I choose to prepare now, why I choose to take advantage of what I can before it is all taken away. No one knows what the future will bring, but I for one want to be as ready as I can possibly be.

Survival and being prepared should not only be a passion, it should be a lifestyle. The definition of a prepper is "An individual or group that prepares or makes preparations in advance of, or prior to, any change in normal circumstances, without substantial resources from outside sources" Like the Government, police etc. I don't believe that the end of the world will be the "end of the world" I believe it will be the end of the world as we know it now. The thing about population explosion is that by 2050 I’ve heard that the worlds population will level off and start to decline for the first time ever not due to war, famine, or disease, but by human decision.

The 1970s futuristic movie. “Soylent Green” starring Charlton Heston and Edward G. Robinson may provide some insight as to how the masses will be fed after the collapse!

I sincerely believe that SHTF will be in our life time. No fiat currency has lasted as long as ours has. Not to mention the hell bent aditude of our leaders to destroy everything they get their greedy hands on! Time draws nigh folks……

I prefer to use the term, “survivalist,” whilst, to me, it means the same as, “prepper,” it seems to be less harsh a term – until reality stares me in the face, that is.
