This week Lisa and I cover what prepping might be like for a trucker or someone who has to travel long distances. Each of us have our own limitations when it comes to prepping regardless of our situation. I would like to have a fortress sitting on top of a mountain…But that’s not going to happen.

We got the idea about this podcast from a listener who sent us this email…

My question:

how to prepare… I’m on the road all the time. 3 days ago i was in new Hampshire, now  i’m near you in boulder co. We just got engaged in Glacier 3 weeks ago, and i was in Georgia just before that.

The facts:
According to natgeo over 2 million people are truckers.
Caches are not possible due to irregular routes.
Year long food and water or even 3 month supply will not fit in my truck.
I have set up an INCH( I’m not coming home) bag designed with longer term survival like fishing kit, 1200 rnds of 22lr with an ar15 22 bolt conversion, hammock and wood processing tools, plus regular b.o.b. stuff.
My fiance has a stay put bag designed so she can bug in to her car if necessary until I come to get her.
Since I’m sure that most of your listeners hear you while they are in transit, maybe you could do an episode working through ideas for trucker preppers, or people on road trips, or rv livers or campers. Feel free to contact me back.
Thanks. Gary

Bugging out for anyone who travels long distances is almost like equipping a regular bug out vehicle, only on steroids. We talked about that along with the different challenges like physical fitness, diet, supplies and personal protection.

There would also be a bunch of skills that might come in useful if you are a very long distance from home. Having urban and rural survival skills and knowing how to avoid people whenever possible might be critical to survival.

If you do happen to run into someone you will want to know how those people might react or what threat they pose. This article from GrayWolfSurvival talks about how reading people is a lifesaving skill.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

We also went over a bit about preparing for people who travel long distances each day going to work. Lisa does this now, and when I was working in Denver I would have to travel over 50 miles each day.

We also touched on prepping and traveling on a plane. I am hoping to have a guest on in the future and discuss this in more detail.

Riding the rails might also be an option in any post collapse situation when everyone else is heading on to the highway.

Generators and Alternative Power

Outdoor Spirit 6 In 1 Portable Power StationI briefly talked about alternative power sources in the podcast and the one I have in my truck is the Outdoor Spirit 6 In 1 Portable Power Station It runs a little over $100 new, but you can get one from eBay for cheaper using the link above.

Along with having an alternative energy option when you drive long distances, it would probably also be a good idea to know how to hot wire an abandoned vehicle, or even syphen gas.

Survival and being prepared should not only be a passion, it should be a lifestyle. The definition of a prepper is "An individual or group that prepares or makes preparations in advance of, or prior to, any change in normal circumstances, without substantial resources from outside sources" Like the Government, police etc. I don't believe that the end of the world will be the "end of the world" I believe it will be the end of the world as we know it now. Hey, new listener here and I’m really liking the show. I can somewhat relate to the topic because I Drive a local route here in Pittsburgh, PA. It helps being able to catch up on the past episodes though.

I am also really interested in the AR 15 raffle.

One more question, are tickets still available for the Springfield ACP raffle?

Thanks and I look forward to new episodes,

      SHawn Wahl
