SM019 Caches and Long Term Food StorageToday I went over a few different subjects, I talked about how to decide what long term food storage company to choose, how I have changed my mind about setting up survival caches and I also talked about our newest venture Survivalist Prepper Television.

Long Term Food Storage

I have been adding quite a few products from legacy foods to the website and I am also setting up some discount codes for the podcast listeners. You can see what discounts I have set up here, and I will be adding to this page as I get more products added.

These discounts will be for all podcast listeners, and I will be creating even better discount codes for academy members that you can find on your profile page.

I also talked about…

  • Buying food storage vs homemade.
  • How much you should buy.
  • How to decide on the best long term food storage. This article has a great comparison chart that shows the difference between these long term food storage companies.
  • Some reviews I have done on YouTube [click here]

 Setting Up Caches

I recently had a discussion with the Apoco-List Facebook group about setting up caches. Any of you who have been listeners for a while know that I have always been against setting up caches. I have never like the idea of buying supplies just to bury them.

After researching how vulnerable our power grid really is, and thinking about how people will be freaking out I have changed my mind. I think caches are like a life insurance policy and don’t need to be expensive. Here are some things I covered…

  • Why I changed my mind.
  • Why set up caches?
  • Where to set them up?
  • Getting supplies cheap.

Coming up this Saturday we will be doing the pilot episode of S.P.T.V. (Survivalist Prepper Television) This is going to be a Google hangout and A show for preppers by preppers about what we are all doing. Everyone’s situation is different and while many aspects of prepping are universal, one size does not fit all.

For those of you who don’t use Google Plus we will also be airing the live broadcast at the Academy here.

This first episode should be great because we have Tom from ThePreparedNinja and Kyle from the Rational Survivor Podcast that have agreed to be on with Lisa and I.

  • Different guests every show.
  • From Bloggers to everyday preppers & survivalists like you.
  • SPTV is about getting different perspectives.
  • Learning about what you feel is important.
  • Giving a voice to the everyday prepper/survivalist.
  • Becoming more prepared and helping each other out along the way.

My vision for the show…

Each week we will have different guests on ranging from the average prepper at home to some of the preparedness experts we all know.
Each show will be on a certain topic and we will have a round table discussion about questions the listeners ask.

Survival and being prepared should not only be a passion, it should be a lifestyle. The definition of a prepper is "An individual or group that prepares or makes preparations in advance of, or prior to, any change in normal circumstances, without substantial resources from outside sources" Like the Government, police etc. I don't believe that the end of the world will be the "end of the world" I believe it will be the end of the world as we know it now. I had set up two Caches last year, one that had medical supplies and one that was more of a bugout bag in a can. I used 5Gal with Gamma Seal Lids. just checked both after this podcast. both are still in conditions. my one with bug out supplies. I do have a firearm in it. very well lubed and in a vacuumed sealed bag. along with 3 MRE’s and a few dried snacks. a 30 day supply of my medication.

We have had the oatmeal, fruit, and chili from Legacy, and all are fantastic. I personally recommend their products, and not just because of the taste. As you said, they are committed to high quality, and after talking to them I believe they are also in this business for all the right reasons. All listeners would do well to give Legacy a try.

I really look forward to your podcast, with all the information and your insight on these very important topics. I have been trying to get to the food storage chart but all I get is a blank page. Any ideas there?

Not sure? I just tried too. I’ll see what I can find that is similar.
