PrepperPodLogo1As preppers we sometimes get lumped into one category by the main stream media and this could not be further from the truth. Preppers come from all sorts of different backgrounds and most of us are not like the people you see on Doomsday Preppers.

We are average everyday people that choose to take our lives into our own hands and although it is hard for people to believe, I think we have a better grasp on reality than most people in the United States today. I could be wrong…but I doubt it.

I broke preppers down into 5 caregories:

  1. The Extreme prepper what tends to go a little overboard on one aspect of prepping while missing other important aspects all together.
  2. The open minded prepper which I think is the category that  most of us fall into because we are always looking for new ways to make ourselves more self sufficient.
  3. The gateway prepper is someone who has just gotten into prepping and is on thier way to becoming an open minded prepper, or possibly an extreme prepper I suppose.
  4. The survivalist has many similarity’s to the prepper because we all have the same goal in mind…survival. Survivalists and preppers are different, but we have quite a few similaritys. LIsa is more of a “Prepper” and I am more of a “Survivalist” but the things we do and the goals we have are basically the same.
  5. And the Closet prepper is someone who is hesitant to tell anyone about their concerns about society because of fear of ridicule. One way or another we should all be somewhat of a closet prepper.

I also wrote an article that goes into a little more detail here.

The Survivalist Prepper Academy

what is a prepperI am in the process of creating a course at the Survivalist Prepper academy for the beginning prepper. have a look at the video here for more information. It should be done by the end of 2013 (hopefully) and if you are just getting into prepping I would love your feedback about what you feel is the biggest issue you face.

It will be a great course when it is complete and I plan on doing more courses in the future, courses that will be a little more advanced for the seasoned prepper.

Other Links From The Show

The Prepper Website is a great tool for finding some of the best articles around the internet, like I said in the podcast I think it’s better than Google.

And if you are looking at becoming better organized when it comes to food storage check out Food Storage Moms. It’s a great website and they offer a realty cool binder. I found out about this website from reading The Preparedness Review.

And Dr. Prepper has one of the most well know book in the preparedness community, Making the Best of Basics. This book was originally written 30 years ago and has been updated 11 times, so it is still relevant today.

Survival and being prepared should not only be a passion, it should be a lifestyle. The definition of a prepper is "An individual or group that prepares or makes preparations in advance of, or prior to, any change in normal circumstances, without substantial resources from outside sources" Like the Government, police etc. I don't believe that the end of the world will be the "end of the world" I believe it will be the end of the world as we know it now. I am definitely a gateway prepper! Right now I’m more worried about storms causing problems with power and food shortages, or possibly losing my job and not having income to buy food for a few weeks. That being said, I am gathering all of the information I can about becoming self-sufficient, so that I can be in a place where I COULD be totally self-sufficient and survive if forced to do so. God-willing nothing will happen for the next 25 years so I can be ready! 🙂
