If this is your first time here at Survivalist Prepper we want to say thanks for stopping by! Because there is so much that goes into preparedness, I thought it might be a good idea to set up a page to help everyone navigate the website.
We have hundreds of articles and podcast episodes here at Survivalist Prepper, so sometimes the good stuff can be hard to find. Hopefully this page will point you in the right direction, but if not feel free to get a hold of me here.
Some of you might not be in the beginning stages of prepping, and some of you may be further along, but regardless where you are on your preparedness journey, we have something here for everyone.
Below are some links to our favorite articles, as well as some resources to help you along the way.
I would have to say the question I get the most often is “where do I start with prepping?” If that's you, you'll find a few good resources to help you along the way.
One of the biggest aspects of preparedness is food storage. Over time we have done quite a few articles and podcasts on what to store, how to store it, and keeping everything organized.
While preparedness and survival skills will always be more important than the supplies, they sure make things much easier. We may need the supplies, but we don't need to waste money.
This page has a lot of great preparedness resources & information on it. To make it easier to find what you're looking for you can jump to any section you like by clicking one of the buttons below.
My wife Lisa and I started the Survivalist Prepper podcast over 5 years ago and take a rational realistic approach to prepping. The podcast is centered around survival skills, prepping skills and how our everyday lives are affected by the changes in the world today.
New episodes of the podcast are available every Thursday on iTunes or your favorite Android podcasting app. You can view the full list of podcast episodes here.
We have quite a few videos on YouTube including prepping gear & Survival tool reviews, preparedness tutorials and lessons. We have videos about shortwave radios, log-term food storage taste testing, preparing for different disaster scenarios, and just about anything that involves preparedness.
I try to upload videos at least once a month, and sometimes twice a week. You can visit our YouTube channel here.
When Lisa and I started the Surivivalist Prepper website we wanted to create a great resource for anyone just getting interested in preparedness, as well as those who have been doing it for a while. What we created was The Survivalist Prepper Academy @TheBugOutLocation.com
Over at the Academy we have courses on communications, food storage, water storage and safety, navigation, bugging out, and more. Members also get wholesale prices & discounts at the SHTFshop.com
The SHTFshop is our online store. We mainly sell Legacy food storage products there, as well as some of our own prepping supplies like our Bug Out Bag First Aid Kits.
Any time we create new T-shirts, new Survivalist Prepper patches, or anything new, we'll add it to the SHTFShop.com. Click here to visit the store and have a look. If you have any questions please feel free and reach out to us.
Over at the Survivalist Prepper Academy we have the FREE Prepping Crash Course that goes through food and water storage, first aid supplies, preparing for a power outage and more.
Lisa and I did a podcast a while back where we went over some of the best episodes we have done that new preppers will find helpful.
Whether you are interested in water filtration, prepping supplies, or why you should be preparing, these podcast will be helpful to any new prepper.
This article goes over how each of our situations is different, and some of the different challenges we face as preppers.
While there are some great guidelines to becoming better prepared, each of us will need to do things our own way.
As you begin your preparedness journey you will no doubt find yourself looking for many different prepping supplies. Before you go on a spending spree, do a little research first.
This article will give you an idea about what you need, and what you don't.
In this video we go back to the basics and talk about tips for people who are just getting interested in preparedness.
In the beginning, prepping can get a little overwhelming and seem complicated. Don't worry, it gets easier over time.
In this article and podcast I talked to Kevin Reiter from The Wilderness Safety Institute to go over water safety and filtration for preppers.
Most people assume that all they need is a basic water filter to clean their water. In most cases this will not be sufficient.
There are quite a few products out there when it comes to water filtering and purification, and that makes picking the right water filter a challenge for preppers.
This article goes into more detail about cleaning water, and also some options for water storage.
We also went into much more detail in the podcast episode we did about water storage.
For anyone who is just getting into preparedness, or confused about which water filter is the right water filter, this video will explain a lot to you.
An urban environment will require a different type of water filtration than you will use in a wilderness environment.
This article is a list of some common foods you can buy from the grocery store that are good for long-term storage.
This article goes over the best buy dates of each of these foods, and not the expiration dates.
Let's face it, storing food isn't brain surgery. However, if we want to make sure our food isn't expired when we need it there are some steps we should take.
This article goes over some of the food storage best practices for preppers.
When it comes to SHTF (POOP HITS THE FAN) cooking there are quite a few options available.
There are also many options that WON'T be available to us in an off the grid situation.
In this video I go over the "what & why" of food storage for preppers. In a disaster of any sort, food and water are our 2 main needs.
Having the food is just the first step. Being able to protect that food is also important.
One of the most important parts of preparedness is having the right first aid supplies. This article goes over some different kits you should have and where we should have them.
Accidents happen when we are driving, while we're at work, and to our pets.
When it comes to medical supplies and first aid, the basics are fairly simple. With more serious injuries, you need to think about the trauma kits and skills.
In this show, we go over what we need, and what we don't need.
If you are like me you have probably heard a lot about prepping and fish antibiotics. While antibiotics can do some amazing things, they can also do damage.
Here is an article goes into detail about antibiotics for preppers.
This video is part 2 (of 2) that Lisa and I go over some important first aid supplies we should have.
Part one was about how to bandage a wound. I recommend watching both videos.
When it comes to preparedness and surviving any disaster that might come your way, there is no shortage of survival tools, supplies and prepping gear you can buy.
This article goes over the important supplies you should focus on.
What I call my "Lights Out Kit" is one of my most important kits. Power outages and natural disaster are quite common, and this kit is great for short term scenarios.
This kit is great for family who are not quite on board with prepping
While some bug out bag supplies are necessities, some are customized to fit our needs. You might not need all these supplies, but they make you think outside the box.
This 3 video series not only goes over ham radio, but I also cover GMRS and FRS and what to expect from short wave radios.
Ham radio is by far the best option for preppers, but it's not for everyone.
When we think about everyday carry items we usually think about what we put in our pockets.
But there is much more that goes into EDC items than a flashlight and a pocket knife.
Looking for a detailed list of what you should include in your bug out bag? Then this article is for you. Not only what you need, but why you need it.
This isn't an article that tells you focuses on "brand names" but rather points you in the direction to make your own decision.
Sometimes OPSEC, situational awareness and intelligence gathering take a back seat to food storage and bug out bags, but these should always be involved in your preparedness plans.
Being the gray man and situational awareness is about more than what you wear, it’s about everything you do that might make you stand out in a crowd.
The definition of situational awareness is having the mindset in which you are constantly evaluating your surroundings for dangerous situations and any potential threats to your safety.
This article goes over what that means to preppers.
Perimeter security and alarms on our property in a SHTF event is critical because it could give us the valuable seconds we need to defend ourselves and our family.
The skills, occupations and trades we have today could drastically change in a post collapse setting.
A post collapse scenario would require good old hands on work, rebuilding, and require much more self-sufficiency.
When it comes to preparedness there is quite a bit more that goes into it than building a lean to shelter and starting a fire. With that being said, if we take these wilderness survival skills for granted, we are leaving a big hole in our preparedness plans.
These are all skills that just 100 years ago were necessary life skills and required for everyday life. Modern technology has made these skills obsolete, but what would happen if our society was set back 100 years?
When it comes to prepping there is no shortage of DIY ideas and projects that we can find. DIY prepping isn’t just about saving money, it’s also about learning new skills that might be useful if our lives get turned upside down.
